Summers stay cool, often in the 70s, while winters bring reliable snow and some of the best skiing in the Southeast. You're less than 10 minutes from Beech Mountain Resort for skiing, snow tubing, ice skating, summer mountain biking, and disc golf. Fred's General Mercantile is 3 miles away for essentials, and Banner Elk's restaurants, wineries, and larger grocery stores are about 20 minutes down the mountain. Sugar Mountain, Grandfather Mountain, Boone, and Blowing Rock are all easy day trips. Hiking trails, Buckeye Recreation Center, and the Emerald Outback trail system are close by, so there's plenty to do in every season.
